The Irish Emergency Alliance's Horn of Africa appeal has successfully raised €650,000 to support communities facing severe drought and hunger in the region. This collaborative effort among seven leading humanitarian agencies aims to address critical needs in Ethiopia, Somalia, and Kenya, where millions are affected by the worst drought in over 40 years.
Supporting Fatima
When Fatima arrived at the Debre Berhan camp in northern Ethiopia, she was worn out. Heavily pregnant and exhausted from more than two weeks of virtually sleepless nights she had spent on the road, she located herself in as private a corner as could be found in a cavernous warehouse, amidst over 1,000 others.
Providing water in Somaliland
In Somalia (including Somaliland) eight million people lack access to clean water and sanitation. The historic failure of four consecutive rainy seasons resulted in the worst drought in over 40 years.
Emergency support for drought affected families in Kenya
In North Horr town in Marsabit County in northern Kenya, Kame Qurre and her six children would often go for days without food because of the impact of the ongoing drought.
