After news broke on a bank holiday Sunday morning in February 2023, of massive earthquakes striking in Turkey and Syria, the Irish Emergency Alliance mobilised to launch an appeal. The appeal is ongoing.
Over 50,000 people have lost their lives as a result of those devastating earthquakes, but our appeal has saved and supported many more. The appeal to date has brought more donations from the Irish public, than any other we have run. While the appeal remains active, we have already made significant impacts.
But our member organisations teams and partners on the ground in Turkey and Syria are warning that the needs are still acute.
The Irish Emergency Alliance member organisations - ActionAid, Christian Aid, Plan International, Tearfund, Trócaire, World Vision - and local partners - are on the ground, responding right now with staff and partners at the coalface of this ongoing emergency.
Working together, we are supporting our international teams as they continue to provide support and emergency supplies including food, water, shelter, back to education programmes and psychological supports.
Thanks to the generosity of caring people like you, we have been able to provide vital, life-saving assistance, as many desperate families have struggled in the aftermath, trying to survive and stay healthy.
