A United Front in Humanitarian Response
As we mark the one-year anniversary of the Irish Emergency Alliance’s intensified efforts following devastating global crises, we pause to reflect on the strides we've made together. Born out of a shared commitment to humanitarian action, our coalition of seven leading Irish INGOs has navigated through the aftermath of unprecedented challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic, conflicts, droughts, and the earthquakes that struck Turkey and Syria.
In this year of unparalleled adversity, our collective action has raised over €6.25 million, a testament to our proven model of agile, effective, and cost-efficient responses. Our member organisations—Action Aid, Christian Aid, Plan International, Self Help Africa, Tearfund, Trócaire, and World Vision Ireland—have been at the forefront, embodying our shared mission across 85 countries.
Milestones of Hope and Resilience
This year has been marked by both challenges and significant achievements. Our response to the earthquakes in Turkey-Syria epitomizes our commitment to rapid, impactful intervention, providing a lifeline to those in dire need.
Christian Aid partnered with Hurras Network to bolster the mental health and resilience of nearly 20,000 children through Community-Based Psychosocial Support, ensuring the continuity of education and fostering community bonds. Funds raised by the Irish Emergency Alliance’s Turkey-Syria earthquake appeal supported the running costs of 70 summer schools, helping another 16,500 children in northwest Syria catch up with their studies.
Tearfund Ireland, collaborating with local partners, reached over 43,000 individuals with essential food, winter support, and hygiene kits, addressing immediate needs and laying foundations for recovery.
World Vision focused in providing hygiene and baby kits to families in temporary shelters, significantly improving access to sanitation and enhancing dignity for 1,500 households.
Plan International Ireland adapted to changing needs, extending cash support to earthquake-affected households, empowering communities, particularly women, to meet their immediate financial needs.
Trócaire's collaboration with partner Caritas, Syria’s Emergency Appeal provided multipurpose cash assistance, shelter rehabilitation, and medical services, alleviating stress and promoting safe, dignified living conditions for earthquake-affected communities.

More than 55,000 people are estimated to have lost their lives, while many more were injured and displaced. More than 54,000 buildings, including hospitals and schools, were destroyed or damaged.
Like thousands of other children who lost their families to the earthquakes in Turkey-Syria, 10-year-old Baker’s* life was turned upside down in seconds.
Nearly one year into the conflict, there are still 18 million Ukrainians in need of aid and more than 13 million people unable to return to their homes. This includes 5.4 million displaced inside Ukraine and another 8 million Ukrainians living as refugees elsewhere in Europe.
